Metamorphosis and Design

Research Fellow in Art and Science, School of Life Sciences, University of Sussex

For one year (2003/2004) Heather worked with four teams of biologists and protein chemists; observing, interacting and responding to the processes and issues of contemporary scientific research. The project focused on ideas of design and transformation in biological systems, and explored diverse areas from cuttlefish camouflage to artificially designed proteins.

The resulting works were exhibited at Friese Greene Gallery, Brighton in October 2004, and installed in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Sussex – including sound, film, digital and drawn images.
